Incorporation
of Gurdwara Sahib York Centre Society
With the Grace of Waheguru, the Gurdwara Sahib York Centre Society, a charitable organization, was incorporated in May 2001, and the Gurdwara Sahib York Centre was opened with its inaugural Akand Paath, held from June 1-3, 2001. The grand-opening was attended by over 1600 people during the 3 day Akand Paath. The Raising of the Royal Sikh Standard, the Nishan Sahib was also performed by the Panj Pyiaray.

This was followed by remarks by Dr. Gurcharan Singh, from Ottawa, and also an address by the His Worship, Mayor of the City of Surrey, Doug McCullum. M.S. Gosal, Chairperson of the Gurdwara presented alongside the Mayor, the Glass-etched plaques to the sewadaars that helped construct the Gurdwara Sahib York Centre. A Royal Scottish Regiment was also present depicted in the photographs.

The Society incorporated under the laws of the Province of British Columbia, and has as its objectives, inter alia: the advancement of the Sikh Religion; establishment of a library, for all to learn, gain knowledge and understanding of the Sikh Religion; to combat community deterioration by assisting individuals, families, seniors, and youth with community education, needs, and to promote community building to enhance the way of life in Canadian society. We hold true to the Canadian principles of democracy, the rule of law, federalism, and
multiculturalism.

Through these objectives, we wish to further the spiritual, intellectual, and temporal needs of the Sangat (congregation). By trying to make a more perfect union, this society shall remain autonomous, independent, and non-partisan in its vision and application. The Society shall foster the integrity of Sikhism, and work pro bono publico.
